Lily Herakova joins the Department of Communication and Journalism as a Lecturer and a Teaching Coordinator for TAs. A native of Bulgaria, Dr. Herakova holds a PhD in Communication from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and has taught at various colleges and universities for nearly 10 years. Her research is in the areas and at the intersections of Health Communication, Food Studies, Pedagogy, and Social Justice, and has been published nationally and internationally. Using ethnographic, performance, and narrative methods, Lily explores the role of communication in everyday processes of learning, knowledge construction and negotiation, and community-building. As a Teaching Coordinator, Lily looks forward to bringing a consideration of these topics to her work with CMJ instructors in developing and supporting inclusive, engaged, and critical teaching practices.
