Josh Roiland is a cultural historian of the American news media. He researches and teaches courses on the theory and practice of literary journalism, the relationship between journalism and American democracy, and the nonfiction of David Foster Wallace. Roiland received his Ph.D. in American Studies from Saint Louis University in 2011. He is currently working on the book manuscript The Rest is Silence: The Unexplored Nonfiction of David Foster Wallace. His articles, essays, and criticism have appeared in the Washington Post, Longreads, Nieman Storyboard, A24 Films, and Literary Journalism Studies.
